Features and Specifications

The device is available in white and black colors with all touchscreen having no keyboard. It is featuring 1.5GHz Dual-core processor along with 2GB RAM. It has a large screen of 5-inch which is 720p all touchscreen. The rear main camera is 8MP with an LED light and a front 2MP camera. The battery is 2800mAh which is non-removable. There are numerous connectivity facilities provided to this handset including 4G LTE, DLNA, 3G, microUSB, Bluetooth, Miracast, HotSpot and Wi-Fi. The internal built-in storage in this device is 16GB which can be further expanded as well using microSD card. BlackBerry uses its own proprietary OS in its all devices and the similar own OS 10.3.1 has been used in this one as well.

Design and Quality

The design of the handset is similar to that of BlackBerry Z3 but that handset was criticized a lot for its heavy size so this time the thickness of Z20 Rio has been confined to 9.5mm. The built material is quite strong and the back of the phone has a mate finish providing perfect grip to the device. The back of the phone carries the rear camera with an LED flash towards the top left corner while towards the bottom is the dual speaker which is quite powerful. The front of the device is all glass. At the top of the screen is the front face camera with a sensor and primary speaker while the bottom of the screen has the three touchscreen navigation keys. The very bottom carries the company logo. The phone has a good amount of length about 144mm.

OS and Tech

BlackBerry handsets are known for using the company’s own peculiar OS and in this handset its own OS v10.3.1 has been used which is well efficient in supporting all latest technologies and is quite appropriate for those who are technology conscious. The OS is well efficient in running most of the Android apps quite smoothly.

Camera and Multimedia

The only design difference between Z3 and Rio is that in Z3 the rear 8MP camera and LED light are located at the back towards top left corner in longitudinal shape while in Rio it is on similar side but in horizontal form. The Camera is not bad at all though it needs improvement. The daylight or images taken under good light are of good quality and shows real color description. Under low light though images are little grainy. The videos recorded by it are of presentable quality though little shakiness is being observed in them. The front camera works nice for the video conferencing and selfies and the quality is not disturbed much.

Battery and Memory

2800 mAh battery may not be enough for this high technology oriented device even bring mid-range. Little more enhancements to the battery should have been provided in this case in order to make this phone running for at least one complete day. This battery would require user to recharge the device at least twice a day. RAM though here is quite powerful as normally 2GB RAM is considered quite nice for a mid-range device. The internal expandable memory is also good as expansion facility is also provided to it so it would attract users towards it.

Users yet to experience the luxury touch of this device. This handset is good for those who love latest technologies but cannot afford so due to high prices. This device is compacted with good latest technologies at very affordable price. It has all ingredients required for any user and can be compared to any good mid-range smartphone in market. Samsung Galaxy S4 is even having some of the features which are lower than those provided in Rio like battery life. This handset is all set to give tough competition to all known brands in the market but it has its limitations as well so those who are not happy with Z3, they may not like to try this one as well but overall this is a good release.
