Chinese electronics company TCL is trying to gain a foothold in India and with that vision in mind they have launched a new smartphone for the Indian market. The TCL 560 comes with an Iris scanner and uses sophisticated eye-biometric verification technology and is sure to garner interest in a market which is increasingly being crowded with similar products. This product does seem to offer something unique to the customer in the budget phone category. Let’s take a look at the specifications on this phones.
Specifications – TCL 560
The TCL 560 comes with a 5.5 inch IPS display that has a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. This eventually translates to a pixel density of 267 ppi. The TCL 560 has a 1.1 GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor that is accompanied by an Adreno 304 GPU. The processing power on this phone gets a bit of a boost thanks to the 2 GB RAM.
The internal storage on the phone is a standard storage capacity of 16 GB for a budget phone. This storage capacity can be expanded up to 32 GB using a microSD card slot. The primary camera on the phone is an 8 megapixel unit with LED flash and auto-focus. The secondary camera is a 5 megapixel unit that also supports LED flash. The TCL 560 is a dual-SIM phone with capacitive touch and is 4G enabled. It is definitely a good move on TCL’s part to introduce one of their best products in a new market with 4G connectivity because 4G is a hot trend in India right now and it will not remain a trend for long.
By the looks of it, 4G may very well become mainstream within a year or so in India. Therefore, this is good move on TCL’s part and they would do well to continue to ship more 4G powered products in India as they go along. The TCL 560 also has support for VoLTE, which is a plus for it. VoLTE supports just improves the overall 4G experience while calling so now that’s available in the mainstream market it is surprising to see that some brands still don’t offer VoLTE support despite offering 4G enabled products.
The dimensions on the TCL 560 are as following: 151 x 77 x 8 mm. The phone weighs a reasonable 152 grams for its form factor. The battery capacity on the TCL 560 is 2500 mAh. This is not a bad battery to boast of on a budget phone though we would like to see all smartphone brands push for better battery tech in future.
According to the company the battery on this phone would last up to 18 hours of talktime on a 2G network and up to 15 hours of talktime on a 3G network. It is also claimed that the phone would last up to 525 hours of standby time on a 2G network, up to 500 hours of standby time on a 3G network, and up to 480 hours of standby time on a 4G network. The last figure is certainly more impressive than the others.

The TCL 560 is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, which is good to see because some smartphone brands making their entry in a new market fail to adopt to the latest version of Android right from the word go. TCL has not missed that opportunity.
The most interesting feature on the TCL 560 of course is the Iris scanner. The way it works is you choose the Screen Lock feature under Settings on your TCL 560 and then create an Eyeprint. It takes about a minute to create your Eyeprint and then you can use it to unlock your lock screen. It takes about 3 seconds to unlock the screen when you use your Eyeprint to unlock it. The technology is still in its nascent stages so we are sure as time goes by the read and response times will only improve. For the time being this is a nifty little feature to have on your smartphone.
