After months of speculation, Google has finally disclosed that their latest version of mobile operating system will be called Nougat and not Android N,It is named after a sugary confection made of honey, ,whipped egg and nuts.This chewy sweet is popular in Italy since the 15th century. It is the successor to Android Marshmallow.
The Nougat version of Android has been in the developer stage for the last few months and was announced by Google at their conference in May, this year, 2016. It will be the fourteenth in line with their versions, labeled Android 7.0.
Initially it was just called Android N ,and had send out a feeler to the public to suggest an appropriate name for the same, Its previous versions have also had names linked to confectionary or sweet based delicacies. the other versions had names like Donut ,Éclair ,Gingerbread, Honeycomb ,Ice cream sandwich etc. When Android 4.4 was named Kit Kat, with the permission of Nestle, its Nutella had become a favorite with people.
The Android Nougat has a split screen, multi window mode, a newly designed notification shade, Data Saver Mode in a new format and seamless updates. It also has number blocking feature.
Daydream, which is Google’s new VR platform, is also supported by this version. The N version features multi tasking, which means quick switching between apps .On the security front there is a file based encryption, meaning that devices running Android N can install system updates, in the background. So when the user powers up his device, they will automatically switch into the updated mode.

Android N’s codename was New York Cheesecake, but going by the policy of Google, the codename is never finalized as the end name for the product.
The Android N picture in picture seems limited to Android TV’s only. There is no clarification as it will be compatible with mobile devices. What version number this N model will get is still not made public by Google.
