The Indian smartphone manufacturer Intex has recently launched its new Aqua series smartphone in the Indian markets. The Intex Aqua Y4 arrives following in line with the other recently launched products of Intex that includes Aqua Q4 and Aqua Xtreme II. It comes with an amazing gesture for letting you mute its ringtones through simply flipping down of the handset. Already included apps include the likes of Opera Mini, Intex service, Start, Myntra, Clean Master, Newshunt, Quikr and ASK ME. However, it would have been much better if the screen size was a bit higher.

Design and quality

This low priced smartphone can be easily inserted your pockets and users would have no problems to hold it in the hand and continue conversation for a long period of time. The screen is made up of protective glass covering which makes sure that there is no scope of any scratch. The outer body comprises of smooth plastic covering with the company’s name in the mid position at the back. Users would also have no problem in typing texts in both portrait and landscape formats with the help of QWERTY keypads. The soft touch buttons of the phone are quite sensitive to single touch of the finger and is well visible in the dark and broad daylight. On opening the back panel of the phone you can view the battery and micro-SD slots quite clearly. The 3.5 mm audio jack is situated in the top edge of the device and volume rocker as well as power button is placed at the right side of the phone.

Intex Aqua Y4 is powered with Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system which is powered by a 1.0 GHz dual core processor and so users can easily shift from one application to another application quite easily. When it comes to downloading high definition games, the device becomes quite a lag due to limited RAM size of 512 MB. This is the reason why it would be a great product if it was fitted with a 1GB RAM. The pre-installed apps take some time to activate but the overall performance is quite satisfactory. Users can engage in series of official tasks with the Quick Office app which helps in editing, creating and viewing spreadsheets, presentations and documents. For better usage experience the firm has included proximity, accelerometer etc in this device.

The 5MP rear camera is perfect for capturing still photos even in dim daylight. You can easily recognize the picture shot at any angular distance. Other camera features that can be found in this smartphone are panorama, HDR, face detection, touch focus, geo tagging, autofocus, and so on. The 2MP front facing camera is perfect for making video calls and capturing selfies. When it comes to multimedia experience the phone, it ranks average because of the absence of HD recording facility. It records videos in formats like AAC, FLV, AVI, MP4 and 3GP. You can download music in formats like AMR, MIDI, WAV and MP3. But absence of Playlist option just unthinkable as it would have allowed us to access our favorite songs and music much easily. However for entertainment you can tune on to the FM radio as well.

The removable Li-Ion battery of 1700 mAh supports decent talk time of 7 hours and standby time of 298 hours. It is quite a decent phone which could survive 6-7 hours of moderate to high usage. The internal storage of 4GB allows us to store applications and files on the phone which can be further expanded to 32GB via micro-SD card.
