There are very few smartphone brands that can claim to consistently offer quality budget phones. Xiaomi is one such brand. The Chinese smartphone maker has now launched a new phone called the Xiaomi Redmi 3x. Let’s take a closer look at the specifications on this phone.

Specifications – Xiaomi Redmi 3x

The Xiami Redmi 3x has a 5 inch IPS display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The phone is powered by an Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor alongside an Adreno 505 GPU. There is a 2GB RAM that’ll boost the Redmi 3x’s performance.

Xiaomi always offers good internal storage options to consumers. This phone has a 32GB internal storage capacity. This internal storage can be expanded upto 128 GB using a Micro SD card slot. The primary camera on the phone is a 13 megapixel unit which supports LED flash and PDAF. The secondary camera, now often referred to as the selfie camera, is a 5 megapixel unit. These camera specifications may now be considered standard camera specifications but we must not forget that Xiaomi is known to offer one of the best cameras in the budget phone category.

This dual sim phone does support 4G connectivity. The phone weighs a mere 146 grams and includes a fingerprint sensor. One of the USPs of this phone has to be its battery. The battery capacity on the Xiaomi Redmi 3x is a very impressive 4100 mAh. Considering that this phone will likely sell for less than Rs. 10,000, the battery capacity becomes all the more impressive. Only Gionee offers similar battery specs at such prices.

The Redmi 3x runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS and uses Xiaomi’s proprietary MIUI as the user interface of choice. The Redmi 3x will be available in two color variants – gold and silver.

The Redmi 3x is a China Unicom specific version of the Redmi 3s

Just prior to launching the Redmi 3x Xiaomi had launched the Xiaomi Redmi 3s. This whole smartphone naming convention is a real mess so don’t blame yourself for confusing some of these names. You are not alone. But to set the record straight, the Redmi 3x and the Redmi 3s are basically the same phone. The Redmi 3x is a China Unicom specific version of the globally launched Redmi 3s.

While the need to name the same phone differently based on territory seems absurd, it is a strategy smartphone brands are known to use. Naming the same product differently gives you the opportunity to market it better. It sort of expands your product portfolio and you can claim this was a country specific version.

As a smartphone brand this strategy also gives you the opportunity to reach a wider audience as the product is often covered more than once by the tech media. This isn’t necessarily a bad strategy as long as companies stick to their promises and deliver quality products. The moment the focus shifts to duping the customer the brand stands to lose credibility in the market. Thankfully this has not been the case with Xiaomi so far.

So in case you are wondering whether or not you can get your hands on the new Redmi 3x, well, worry not and go buy a Redmi 3s instead, when it’s available in India.
