The Indian smartphone manufacturing company, Intex is about to launch an ultra-budget smartphone to cater to a wide Indian audience aiming to provide high end specifications at a reasonable price. Intex is fast gaining a foothold in the Indian smartphone market and has managed to win the loyalty of a sizeable fraction of the Indian customers. Intex is known for producing phones having the most competitive prices and true to their character, they have come up with the Aqua 4.5E that can turn out to be a shining star in the mid to low range smartphone market. The Intex Aqua 4.5E is expected to be launched at a very reasonable price.

Features and Specifications

The Intex Aqua 4.5E is a dual SIM dual standby smartphone that runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat and possesses a 5 MP camera. The phone is powered by a sufficiently robust 1.3 GHz dual core processor having a RAM of 512 MB.  It has a 4.5 inch long primary FWVGA display with a resolution of 854X480 pixels and is capable of displaying 16 million different colours. The phone is Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB enabled. However, the phone can only support 2G and not 3G which can be a bit of a deterrent as 2G is no longer the first choice for many customers. It is equipped with the GPRS and EDGE technologies but lacks IRDA connectivity.

The design is quite sturdy. It is a bar shaped phone weighing a reasonable 137 g.  The 8.9 mm thick phone’s dimensions are 133.4x68.9x8.9 mm. It comes in 4 different colours namely, Black, Grey + Black, Black + Blue, White + Champagne. The phone is slightly curved at the edges and has three navigation buttons below the screen. The top of the screen has LED lights, a secondary camera and a proximity sensor. The phone is easy to grip and its comfortable size makes it easy to carry around.  The design and build is classy which lends the phone an easy look.

The phone runs on the new Android 4.4.2 KitKat. This android version is far superior to the earlier versions and is very slick and smooth. The OS aptly handles all the operations of the phone seamlessly. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz dual core processor which is enough to ensure a glitch free experience. The phone has a RAM of 512 MB. The RAM is the disappointing aspect of the phone since it can prove to be insufficient for multitasking and running high end or high graphic applications. Other than that, the phone’s technology is up to date and impressive.

The phone comes with a 5 MP primary camera that can click photographs with a resolution of 2592X1944 pixels. The camera possesses the basic features like zoom, LED flash and video recording. Intex Aqua 4.5E comes with a Li-ion battery having a capacity of 1600 mAh. The battery standby time is 400 hours and a talk time of 300 minutes. Under normal usage, the phone can be expected to last around 16-18 hours which is not too bad.  It has a 512 MB RAM with an internal storage of 4 GB. The phone is equipped with a memory card slot and its external memory is expandable up to 32 GB which is more than enough for most users.

Verdict

This phone can be a threat to some rival smartphones in a similar price bracket like Microsoft Lumia 435, Micromax Bolt A67 and Samsung Z1 Tizen. The phone’s low price is a huge factor that can work in its favour. However, lack of 3G connectivity and low RAM can lure a potential customer to other phones in the market. If you are looking for a phone within Rs. 4000-4200, this can be the best bet. If on the other hand, you can spare some more money, there are a lot of better smartphones in the market. The customer reaction is yet to be out but it sure promises to be a value for money handset.
