Design and Quality

The competing devices to this one are Nokia Lumia 620, Samsung Galaxy Fame and Sony Xperia U. Looking at the design of the device, it looks like something new model of the Curve. It feels quite solid in hand. The bottom of the screen if this device is having keys which are classic BlackBerry keys which are having escape, power, menu, send along with a touchpad in the center. The bottom of the keypad is the matt plastic. This is easy to be held in one hand. A rubber strip is running all the way towards the sides of the device and also encompasses the lock button, top left, and the headphone port along with the volume rocker. The back panel is textured made up of plastic along with a silvery logo of the company. The removing of the back panel is easy and under the back cover are residing the battery and the SIM slots. At the top is the microSD card slot and the camera and flash is also located towards the left of the microSD card towards the top. The placement of the microSD card slot is little odd and it leaves the user always unsure if the card has been inserted correct. The device is comfortable to hold in hand and gives a premium feel and is easy to be manipulated by one hand.

OS and Tech

The rather outdated version of OS is installed in this device. The latest one is BlackBerry 10 but this device runs on BlackBerry 7.1 and this thing can be felt very clearly when one starts navigating among the apps. This OS is typically for the mobile phones rather than the smartphone so the performance is not up to the mark of this OS.

Camera and Multimedia

The decent camera has been provided to this device with an LED light. This is the only camera in this phone and no front camera provided. The performance of the camera can be compared with that of Samsung Galaxy Fame and Nokia Lumia 520. It has a dedicated button for the camera in this device towards the right hand side. The camera has decent features like face detection, landscape, sport, close up and many more. There is no autofocus in this camera which is considered as a very common camera feature in smartphones. The speed of the shutter is quite fast and is capable of recording spontaneous movements. The images generated by this camera are of decent quality. It also has the video recording functionality. The video quality though is not very impressive and it has been found struggling hard to cope with recording the movements correctly.

The company claims to provide with this battery about 7hrs of talk time and about 18hrs of standby time. The company is very right is claiming so. Under even heavy use, the battery is capable to run the phone for little more hours than what has been claimed by the company. The internal storage is limited but expansion is decent enough but the RAM is very limited which should have been at least to 1GB.

Verdict

The device is slow in performance due to outdated OS. The display of this device is also quite tiny. There are not many preloaded apps in it. The company should have been provided this device with the latest OS so that its performance would not have been affected. So regardless of the god features some better devices are already available in market like Sony Xperia U and Nokia Lumia 520.
