Features and Specifications

The weight of the tablet is 318g having 8inch screen made up of IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors. The resolution of screen is 1200x800p and also offers multi-touch. OS in it is Android v4.4.4 KitKat which is upgradeable to v5.0 Lollipop. The processor here is 1.83GHz and the RAM is 1GB. The internal storage is 8GB which can be expanded further through microSD card up to 32GB. The device is equipped with two cameras. The rear camera is of 5MP with features like geo tagging and autofocus while the back camera is 2MP used for the selfies and video calls. The battery is 4000mAh Li-ion which is non-removable and the connectivity features included are Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and microUSB.

Design and Quality

The look of Micromax Canvas Tab P690 is quite expensive having grey metallic back panel and quite thin bezels. Though it has 8inch large screen but it gives a very compact feelings as if it is of 7inch screen. The back metal also extends towards the sides while having a little curve in the center. The edges are blunt which makes it easy for the user to handle it comfortably with single hand. The weight of the device is 318g and with this much weight is it slightly heavier to its competitor Apple’s iPad mini 3 which has 312g weight. Both the microSD card slot and the SIM card slots are found on both sides. The 8 inch screen is quite good looking with 1200x800 resolutions. The display colors seem quite real and the text on it is easy to be read but screen is no doubt sharp and is little reflective too which affects the visibility while using the tab outdoors.

OS and Tech

Android v4.4.4 KitKat is being run on this tablet which is though an older version of OS now but this tablet has also been scheduled to be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop which is latest OS. The normal Android interface has been modified in this device rather than bringing the whole change in the icons etc. The performance of tablet under KitKat is even better and the multi-tasking is quite swift.

Camera and Multimedia

The camera is this device is just ok though it is not of high quality. The camera is quite fast and click decent amount of pictures under good light conditions. But under low light, the clarity of images gets poor. The front camera though is better for making video calls. The video recording in this device also suffers from the noise and the videos at times get blurred which also reduces the quality of videos.

Battery and Memory

4000mAh battery has been provided in this tablet which is not enough to make the device run for even one day. This much battery also takes quite long time to get fully recharged. But it is also expected that once the OS will get upgraded to Lollipop, so the battery performance will also get improved. The device has 1GB RAM which may at times suffer performance bottleneck but the decent expandable memory is not bad here though it is not enough.

The look and feel of the device is too good containing quite interesting features. But this device is mostly useful for those useful who require basic computing device. Other good alternatives to this one are also present like Dell Venue 7 which comes with much better storage, battery and performance. This device is though good for those who want to use their tablets as phones. Bu this device requires some sacrifices which a user has to make.
