Features and Specifications

The display screen of Asus VivoTab 8 is 8.0-inch with a pixel density of 189p. The technology used for the screen is IPS LCD Capacitive Touchscreen and the screen to the rest of the body ratio is 62.74%. The screen offers 16M colors offering multi-touch capability. It has 5MP rear facing camera without LED light and 1.2MP front facing camera for the selfies. The processor is 1860MHz Quad-core. The RAM is 2 GB and the internal storage is 64 GB which can be expanded further with the help of microSD card. The OS is very much obvious here, which is Windows 8.1. The battery life is not bad here while the connectivity features included are GPS, A-GPs, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Design and Quality

There is edge to edge smooth glass in front as compared to other tablets that has raised tiny lip as in the case of Acer W4 which carries the plastic outer border. This also has a stylus which is a plus from the company. The slot for the stylus is very discrete and it is hard to find. The stylus is small in size made up of plastic and is not resizable also but it performs its function perfectly. The back cover has the mate finish resisting fingerprints. The back camera is placed in the center of the back towards top which is quite odd while mostly tablets and phone keeps the camera on top left. There is a tiny button towards the left hand side and the power button is also small towards the right hand.

OS and Tech

Windows 8.1 is quite latest and quick version of Windows OS. This works perfectly fine over this tablet giving quite handsome of multitasking and keeping the performance of the tablet quite smooth. This makes the Windows as ideal OS for the tablets and people do like it on their tablets.

Camera and Multimedia

The camera of VivoTab 8 is very interesting but since there is no support of LED light so the performance under low light conditions would highly suffer. Under good light, the performance of the camera is nice and produces really crispy and crunchy pictures while the videos recorded by it are also of good quality which gives full fun while running on large screen. The front camera though is limited in capacity but works fine for the video calls and selfies without creating any problem.

Battery and Memory

The battery of Asus VivoTab 8 is almost failure. The battery takes about 10hrs to get fully recharged and there is no physical indicator in shape of LED light showing if the battery recharge has been completed or not. The battery even is not able to provide full day use of tablet and gets squeezed early. The RAM is very limited here, keeping in view the size of the screen the RAM should have been 1GB at least while the internal storage is 64GB which is quite enough but good thing that further extension to memory is also provided which is enough to fascinate the users.

Verdict

Normally 8.0-inch large screen tablets get themselves refined during second or third release with improvements in battery life, performance and rest of the features along with design. The price of this tablet is too much but it has a good design and good resolution of screen but poorest battery while the Acer W4 has the strongest battery. This tablet could have used more ports and somewhat thinner body but this is not present in this version of the device and hopefully the coming version would be much improved than this one. The device overall is not bad but some of the areas do need improvements. The camera location is not good and the missing of the LED flash with the back camera may also not be acceptable for the users who are photography lovers. The battery need to be upgraded as it is not even enough to support the running of graphic intensive game. If Lenovo has to keep this device in market, upgrades to some of its features need to be released.
