For a budget phone that costs less than Rs. 7,500 the camera configuration on the Blade A2 is pretty good. The primary camera is a 13 megapixel unit which supports LED flash and PDAF. The secondary camera is a 5 megapixel unit and photography enthusiasts will be glad to know that it supports LED flash. That is indeed a rather impressive camera configuration from ZTE in this price segment.

The ZTE Blade A2 is a 4G enabled dual SIM phone that will give you all the standard connectivity options that you would expect from a modern smartphone. The phone also supports VoLTE. The phone weighs only 135 grams which might not seem like a huge improvement over other phones that sport the same form factor but it is actually a substantial improvement. Very few 5 inch phone currently make it to the mid 130 gram weight range. Ease of carry is an important feature that often gets overlooked so kudos to ZTE for getting this right.

The battery capacity on this phone is 2500 mAh. Once again, considering the price segment where this phone will competing that is a pretty decent battery specification. The phone also has a fingerprint sensor as an add-on.

Is ZTE ready to shake things up in the smartphone industry?

After announcing the spectacular new ZTE Axon 7 the fact that ZTE has launched a budget phone with great specs with competitive pricing is a clear indication that ZTE is ready to make a few big moves. These two phones are two completely different beasts in their own rights.

ZTE Axon 7

The Axon 7 with its 6 GB RAM, 20 megapixel camera, and Snapdragon 820 processor will be one of the most, if not the most, powerful Android phone in the market. Only the likes of Samsung Galaxy S7 32 GB and the HTC 10 will be able to give this phone a run for its money purely in terms of performance. The Blade A2 will have a similar edge over its competitors because of the price segment it is being introduced into. It does appear that ZTE is planning to expand its smartphone portfolio further by introducing high quality phones at competitive prices.

Having said that it is important to note that even if ZTE accounts for some great sales this upcoming financial quarter it will still have to do exceptionally well to compete with other top smartphone brands. Samsung’s marketing arsenal, Huawei’s continuous rise, and a host of other Chinese companies could prove to be very tough competition to topple for ZTE.
