The front camera isn’t too bad either. A 13 megapixel unit with 1/3” Exmor RS for mobile sensor and 22mm wide-angle lens, F2.0 alongside the same tech used for the primary camera for video recording and stabilization. Very impressive specs indeed. This might be the Sony phone photography enthusiasts have been waiting for.

The battery capacity on the Xperia X is 2620 mAh and the phone supports all standard connectivity options including 4G. The dual-SIM phone is powered by the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

The Sony Xperia X is the new Sony flagship and there will be no Xperia Z6

Perhaps the most interesting bit about the new Xperia X is that after initial rumors in the media the company confirmed that this device will be indeed be the new flagship and that the Xperia Z series had “reached its culmination”. This information is not only newsworthy but it came as a bit of a surprise to the media and Sony Xperia Z series loyalists alike. The Xperia Z series has seen some of best phones from Sony in the past. In fact in the Sony Xperia Z4, Sony had one of the very best smartphones in the world.

Sony seems to be suggesting that with the Xperia X series the company wants to rebrand its flagship phones and start a new chapter. To be honest this seems more like a rebranding exercise, for which there was no apparent need, than a strategic shift in focus. Unless this is Sony’s attempt to start a new flagship series that specializes in high-end specs of some kind (in Sony’s case, could it be cameras?) we will have to wait and see how this move unfolds.
