These are exciting times for the Indian consumer electronics market. After the successful foray of Chinese smartphone giants Xiaomi in India and a great debut by OnePlus, another brand is about to enter the Indian market. InFocus have partnered with Snapdeal to launch their InFocus M2 smartphone in India on March 10.

This brand new smartphone is in the budget phone category and offers good value for money. The company has its roots in the United States and has decided to tap into the Indian smartphone market which is probably among the most sought after smartphone markets in the world at this point in time. Therefore, this move by InFocus seems apt and timely.

This smartphone is powered by Android 4.4 KitKat. It boasts of a decent 8 megapixel camera and reasonable pixel density of 331 PPI. The phone comes bundled with 1 GB of RAM and an 8 GB internal memory. For some of our readers these specs might not be among the best specs in the market but then again this seems more like a cautious and carefully thought of entry into the market by InFocus and is certainly not an attempt at blowing the existing competition away. With the M2, InFocus wants to gain a foothold in the Indian market. Having said that there is stiff competition in the budget phone market in India and with the current specs the M2 will do well to survive in the long run. The phone is currently priced at Rs. 4,999 and is available through Snapdeal.

Another important factor regarding this news is InFocus’ partnership with Snapdeal. The fact that InFocus has decided to start off with online sales via registration only is a clear attempt at gauging the consumer interest in their product. If the initial registration stock sells out in quick time, as was the case with Xiaomi’s devices, both Snapdeal and InFocus stand to witness some much welcome public interest. This will also allow InFocus to keep their marketing efforts in check. By opting for the registration only option they have ensured that their marketing team has enough time to understand the market and deliver when required as per the observed consumer-interest trend.

With all the competition waiting for it, the InFocus M2 is about to enter the big league of a high quality budget phone industry that is currently at its peak in India. How well this smartphone fares only time will tell, but its a win-win situation for the Indian consumer. Another top foreign brand entering the market offers another potential choice for consumers.
