CREO-Mark-1

You may not have heard of them but a Bangalore based Start-up has taken it upon itself to launch a new smartphone that will see new OS level updates every month. Creo, formerly known as Mango Man Consumer Electronics, has announced its plans to launch its smartphone – the Creo Mark 1.

The Indian company has previously dabbled into Consumer Electronics with their Chromecast competitor in India – Teewee. Creo is essentially a software company that relies on its software expertise to empower its hardware products. And that is precisely what they are promising to do with the new Creo Mark 1.

While Creo has announced that it will launch the Mark 1 and released a very impressive teaser there is still no official word on the exact specifications the Mark 1 will boast of. But based what the rumor mill is reporting we have a few speculated specs for this upcoming smartphone.

Specifications – Creo Mark 1

Without getting into the nitty-gritty of it let’s take a cursory glance at the specs on the Creo Mark 1. The Mark 1 will likely sport a display which is less than 5 inches, quite possibly a 4.6 inch display. The phone will reportedly run on a 1.9 GHz Octa Core MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795 processor alongside a 3 GB RAM and an internal storage of 32 GB. The Creo Mark 1 will likely sport a 21 megapixel primary camera with dual LED flash and autofocus and a secondary camera that will sport an 8 megapixel unit.

Undoubtedly the most intriguing aspect of the Creo Mark 1 will be its OS. In all likelihood the company will run a customized version of the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS but the level of customization is what will set this phone apart, claims the company.

Creo’s official statements on the Mark 1

Creo’s CMO Vartika Verma had the following to say about the state of Android phones today and Creo’s intentions to make an improvement on the same.

Unfortunately, most Android phones have pretty much the same features, except for the difference in skins and colors. That is what we want to change. We want to put features out every month that improve the user’s experience and offer powerful functionality to the user. With respect to features, we will be improving on and building app discovery, security, and calling features, amongst many others.

– Vartika Verma, CMO, Creo

Ms. Vartika’s statements highlight Creo’s focus. It is true that many smartphone brands that prefer Android as their OS, which is a lot of brands, have lacked the software focus. When it comes to the OEMs there have been great advancements made in terms of improving hardware quality and efficiency but most of the system software level improvements come from Google itself every time it releases an update that OEMs incorporate in their Android-based OS skins.

As harsh as that may sound, most smartphone companies running on Android offer OS skins for system software. When it comes to breakthrough improvements at the system software level these smartphone companies have nothing to write home about. This is why the introduction of new companies such as LeEco has been like a breath of fresh air in a highly saturated Indian market.

This is why Creo is creating a buzz. The company is marketing the software on the Mark 1 as “A new phone every month”, emphasizing on the feature updates that consumers who opt for Creo phones will get every month.

The current crop of players from India and China are locked in a viscious hardware spec-war which is neither profitable for the manufacturer nor compelling for the end-user in the long run. While Mark 1 will launch with top-end specs, our key differentiators are in our OS, and the experiences we are offering via deep Android OS level features, unheard of on any Android phone, Indian or Chinese.

– Vartika Verma

It remains to be seen if Creo can deliver on its promises of offering truly remarkable features every month but there is no doubt that it has generated enough interest in the market and consumers will be waiting to explore the Creo Mark 1 when it does make its debut in India in a few months from now.
