Acer Iconia W4-820 32GB
Acer Iconia W4-820 32GB Tablet Price in India
The first attempt of Acer to launch 8-inch Windows based tablet worked very nice. It has a good style but this was soon suppressed by new models from Lenovo, Dell and many others for having good design and performance as well as performance. But this tablet provides all the features of Windows like Office suit and it has the ability to download all the desktop applications in a small and compact device. This is the follow up of the Acer Iconia W3 but with much better improvements. It has got much lighter and slimmer than the previous one but it still is struggling with the performance issues.
Features and Specifications
The weight of this tablet is 419g which makes it quite lighter. It has 2GB RAM while the internal storage is 32GB which can be further expanded up to 64GB with the use of microSD card. The screen is 8inch large made up of IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen technology. The processor here is quad-core 1.333MHz while the OS is Widows 8.1 Pro. The battery in this tablet is 4960mAh of Li-Polymer. The screen size is 8inch and type of display is Active Matrix TFT Color LCD and the screen resolution is 1280x800. The connectivity feature in this tablet is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It comes with two cameras one on rear side and other on front side. The rear camera which is 5MP has resolution 1920x2560p while the front one which is 22MP has resolution of 1080x1920p.
Design and Quality
This is actually the upgraded version of Iconia W3 and is having a plastic body and gives a business like feel better than Dell’s Nexus 7. His tablet is quite slimmer and lighter than its previous versions and weighs on 415g but still slimmer version of tablets are available like iPad Mini 2 Retina. This tablet can be easily used with a single hand. A silver grey shade is there running throughout its entire body also around the screen bezels. The bottom side of the screen is little thicker in order to accommodate the physical button of Windows which allows moving back and forth in the tablet. Towards the top edge of the tablet are lying all the buttons like micro HDMI, volume rocker, microSD card slot and also the power button. Towards the bottom edge is the headphone jack, two speakers, and microUSB. The plastic body of this tablet is quite durable and very tough but it can easily catch the scratches so it’s better to buy an extra casing for it. The look of the device is quite nice as compared to the Encore but radically there is no difference in it and the W3. The decision of Dell to go for the plastic body of the device with Windows OS seems a very intelligent move especially for the smaller Windows based tablets especially when it is going to compete the rivals like Nexus 8 and iPad Mini.
OS and Tech
The main selling point of this tablet is that it runs the full features of Windows 8.1 including office and Photoshop etc. this means that this tablet can have the capability to work as a desktop. It also provides optimization features like the multitasking ability by combining multiple windows together. The OS come with some already packed features like dedicated apps for working on the documents, viewing the pictures and videos along with having cloud support. But one is sticked to the Windows version of software only which is a drawback for sure.
Camera and Multimedia
The back camera is 5MP while the front one is 2MP so it provides photography experience. The video recording can also be done in full HD mode with the both the cameras. The camera interface though is very basic one as the back camera has only autofocus feature. The quality of the images and videos generated for the cameras are not very dissimilar to what one can get from an average budget smartphone so this means the camera performance is not outstanding. Under low light, the camera works very poor.
Battery and Memory
There is a significant jump in battery life from3400mAh in W3 to 4960mAh in W4. This battery life is indeed bigger than what has been provided to Dell Venue Pro 8. The company claims that one can go using this device up to 10hrs which is actually more than the time provided by the iPad Mini and Nexus 7. The RAM is 2GB which is good enough while the internal and expandable memory are also quite impressive.
Pros and Cons
For Pros:
· Excellent battery life
· Nice display
· Preinstalled office
For Cons:
· Little sluggish performance
· Design not inspiring
Verdict
This is another Windows 8 based tablet giving quite better performance. It comes with full Windows capability on a small tablet which is though a good move but still due to heavy Windows installed on smaller device; this may not work well for everyone.
