XOLO Play Tegra Note is a lightning fast tablet build on the Tegra 4 ARM processor platform. The device is a brainchild of Nvidia and was built to showcase its Tegra Note platform. The entire design and configuration of the tablet is by Nvidia. Therefore the tablet is replete with graphics-intensive configuration which makes it best suited for gaming and HD video playing. The Direct stylus technology on the device is a worthy answer to Samsung`s pen. Powered by an incredibly fast processor, the device has outdone its competitor, the Nexus range of devices, when it comes to providing a truly Android experience. All of this at an incredibly affordable sub-10,000 INR price makes this device a good purchase.
Features & Specifications
The Tegra Note is powered by a 1.8 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 4 Quad-Core Processor based on the ARM Cortex 4-A15 processor cores. The 72-core NVIDIA GeForce GPU is built to render unbelievably real graphics for an enhanced gaming and HD video experience. It appears that the 1 GB RAM on the tablet does more than a decent job with the speed. All this power makes it an incredibly fast tablet suited for all kinds of applications and tasks with absolutely no lag. Another addition is the highly responsive chisel-tip NVIDIA DirectStylus, which offers a unique experience on the Stock Android platform. It comes with a 7-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which sports 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. This is not much but a good bargain at the price. The phone does not support a sim card and hence there is no 3G support. However other connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0, USB 2.0 and micro-HDMI are present.
Design and Quality
At 320 grams, the tablet is slightly heavier than Nexus 7, but comes with a good grip back panel, which makes it easy to handle. The XOLO Play includes a micro-USB port, a micro-HDMI port, microSD card slot along with headphone jack and buttons. The styles works at both ends – the narrow end for writing and the wide end can be used for broad strokes during painting or sketching. The display doesn’t sport any scratch resistance and even the plastic back is prone to scratches.
OS and Tech
XOLO Play runs on the Stock Android 4.2.2 Jellybean. This essentially makes this lightning fast device the only other phone, the other being Nexus 7, to give a true Android experience. The OS is not subjected to any modifications by the manufacturer and hence XOLO has promised prompt Over-The-Air upgrades to recent Android versions.
Camera and Multimedia
A 5 MP main camera is capable of clicking decent images in a variety of lighting conditions. Nvidia has replaced the camera app with its own “Camera Awesome” app. This app is tuned to tap into the amazing capabilities of the processor. A host of features such as HDR, Panorama, Burst, picture editing tools and so on, are added to make it a full-fledged camera app. A notable feature is that the camera tracks an object on tapping for improved image clicking experience. The camera is capable of recording videos at 720p, even with a slow motion mode.
Battery and Memory
A Li-Ion 4100 mAh Battery packs enough power to provide nearly 2 days of running time on average application loads. Under heavy duty usage with games and movies, the device lasts for about 6-10 hours. The device hardly consumes any power on stand-by mode. The tablet features a 16GB internal memory which can be expanded up to 32 GB.

Verdict
The best-in-class performance of the device easily overshadows its minor negatives. Not only is it faster than its only other competitor Nexus 7, but also promises the same level of Android experience. The butter-smooth Stylus is something to boast about too. Although a slightly inferior build quality could be a concern, the price tag more than makes up for it.
