The Lenovo Vibe X S690 is packed with features that will appeal to most heavy duty users. The 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS LCD display with capacitive touch is very pleasing to the eye and protected by Gorilla Glass 3. It features a 1.5 GHz Quad core processor supported with a 2GB RAM and a PowerVR SGX544MP2 Graphics card. A 13MP rear camera with LED flash promises superior image capture and boasts of HD video recording. It comes packed with 16GB/32GB internal memory with no MicroSD option included. This phone comes with Jelly Bean Android OS installed which can run smoothly off the ample memory and processing power the phone provides.

Design and Quality

The Lenovo Vibe X S690 is just 6.9mm thick and weighs only 121g managing to give off a sleek look. The 5.0 inch screen is big and with a high screen to body ratio of 64.7% the bezels on the side are thankfully slim.  The body is comprised of durable plastic and does not feel cheap or low quality. The phone features a two tone design with the front a dark black color while the rear is nice shiny silver. The rear of the phone has a 13MP camera with LED flash and a Lenovo logo while the front has the Lenovo logo and three capacitive keys.

OS and Tech

A 1.5 GHz Quad core processor with 2 GB of RAM is enough for most games and apps to run smoothly. Lenovo chose to go with Android OS v4.2.2 Jelly Bean for the Vibe X S690 and it performs admirably with no lag whatsoever. The performance can be attributed to the 2GB RAM and 1.5Ghx Quadcore processing power being at the OS’s disposal. Connectivity features in the phone are Bluetooth, MicroUsb, WiFi and GPS while it has three sensors included i.e. G sensor, Compass and proximity.

Camera and Multimedia

Full HD imaging and video capture is offered by the Lenovo Vibe X S690 via its 13MP rear camera with LED flash. The rear camera supports images of up to a max resolution of 4128 x 3096 pixels with features such as autofocus, touch focus, geo-tagging and face detection. The front camera is 5MP and promises high quality image and video resolution for video calls and such. The high processing power and memory makes it possible for the user to watch HD movies on the 5.0 inch full HD display. Listening to music and the radio is also possible using either the device’s loudspeaker or the bundled handsfree.

Battery and Memory

2000mAh of battery life is sufficient enough for the device to give 16 hours of talk time and 288 hours of standby time. The battery however is non-removable Li-Po and there is no way to replace it except through an authorized dealer or experienced mobile technician. The handset has 16/32GB of built in memory but no MicroSD option sadly so users will be limited in the amount of media and apps they can store. 2GB of RAM ensures that numerous running background processes will not crash the device nor slow it down as easily.

Verdict

Rivals HTC Desire 816G and XOLO Play T1000 have serious competition on their hands as Lenovo Vibe X S690 has come to compete and pulls no punch. A full HD display with very high PPI for a mobile in its price range is a nice move by Lenovo making the phone capable enough to compete with higher spec phones as well. Add in a Quad core processor with 2GB of RAM and you have a great package that almost any user will enjoy. It does have setbacks in the form of non removable battery and lack of MicroSD option but for someone who doesn’t mind the battery or the memory constraint will love this phone.
