Features and Specifications

The device is light and slim weighing 97.7g having micro SIM usage. The screen is large of 4.8inch having 16M colors with AMOLED touchscreen technology and provides multiple touch. The OS is Android v4.4.2 KitKat and a powerful processor of 1.7GHz Octa-core. The RAM is 1GB and the built-in storage is 16GB without further extension available to the memory. The back camera is 8MP having LED flash and autofocus feature while the front camera is of 5MP used for video conferencing. The battery is also heavy of 2050mAh Li-ion but it is fixed and cannot be removed. The connectivity features included are Wi-Fi, microUSB, and GSM.

Design and Quality

The build material used is metal of fine quality and comes in numerous colors like pink, mint green, black and white. The gold frame around the phone makes it look very attractive. At the top of the screen is the 5MP camera, sensor and earpiece while at the bottom of the screen there are three capacitive navigation keys. At the back is the 8MP camera with LED flash and a speaker. The micro SIM slot is located at the right side of the phone while the power button and the volume rocker are on the left side. The front and back of the phone are provided with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. At the bottom of the phone there are 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB port. The price for the phone is too high and makes it less acceptable for some people as many other good smartphone with similar specifications are already available in the market.

OS and Tech

The phone runs Android v4.4.2 KitKat along with Gionee’s own Amigo UI 2.0. The OS is quite latest and the support from 1.7GHz processor is strong enough to give a nice overall performance and good level of multitasking. The RAM though is limited to 1GB but hopefully this will not affect the performance of the phone much.

Camera and Multimedia

The back camera is of 8MP having multiple camera modes like face detection, makeup and many other filters but the actual camera is not very impressive. It is not a fast shooter but the photos look nice on the device screen but viewing them on much larger screen then gives some issues. The pictures don’t give much of details. Though these drawbacks are nicely handled under HDR mode but the low light performance of the camera gets worse. The front camera on the other hand does good job for fallacies. The video recording by the back camera also lacks many details besides having screen tearing at times as well.

Battery and Memory

Under regular use, the 2050 mAh battery stands for whole day nicely. It can easily give 6 hrs of video play back and 9hrs of talk time. This much battery is quite perfect for the device as the phone is too slim and doesn’t consume much power. Heavy battery means recharging fully will take a lot of time. The RAM is very less considering the powerful processor and the latest OS. It should have been little upgraded and the internal storage is 16GB without further memory extension. 16GB internal storage is also not bad but for those who love videos and games, this much battery may not be enough for them. Hopefully there would be an extension provided to next release of Gionee.

If someone is looking for a stylish phone then surely Gionee Elife S5.1 is for them. It is the slimmest and very stylish smartphone. But at the same time this is not one of the premium phones from Gionee considering the price, overall performance and the specifications, this phone comes under mid-range handsets and many are available with same specification but at much affording prices than this one like Nokia Lumia 730, Lenovo Vibe X2 and Huawei Honor 6. With little more price, OnePlus One is then the best choice keeping in view the overall performance and the specifications and can be a good choice for majority.
