Features and Specifications

Gionee Pioneer P2S has got very rudimentary features well enough for a phone of this type. It is a Dual SIM smartphone running Android 4.2 OS which is a plus point about this phone. It has 5MP rear camera along with an LED flash along with a VGA 0.3MP secondary camera at the front. It is quite light and slim weighing 124g and has 9.3mm thickness. The internal storage of the device is 4GB and has a medium term battery life of 1600mAh. It has a relatively large display of 4inch. The ROM is of 4GB. Even though being mediocre, the connectivity options it provides are 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, FM-radio and GPS.

OS and Tech

Gionee Pioneer P2S runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Beans having Amigo UI. Being an entry level smartphone, having an advanced OS makes it very exclusive. It supports all the apps which an Android phone should do. It is based on 1.3GHz Media Tek MT6572 Dual core processor powered by Mali 400MP GPU. Having this technology, the performance of the phone is quite better but one does feels lagging in its performance at times which is quite irritating.

Display and Quality

The phone is quite slim having 9.3mm thickness. The body of the phone is curvy and the back is having matte finish and very soft to touch. The look of the smartphone is premium. The power button and volume rockers are placed at the right of the phone whereas Micro USB port is located at the bottom of the phone. And a 3.5mm audio jack on the top. The build quality of the phone is very good. Since, it is a dual SIM smartphone with specifications as follows: the SIM slot 2 accepts normal SIM and SIM slot 1 accept micro SIM. It has large screen of 4 inch with WVGA 800x400p resolution. The viewing angles which the phone provides are very interesting and the touch feels very responsive and smooth. It has 5 sensors embedded such as accelerometer, proximity, orientation, and light as well as magnetic. It comes in different colors like black, yellow, Blue, red and white.

Camera and Multimedia

The phone comes with 5MP rear camera having auto focus feature along with an LED flash and the front camera is of 0.3MP. The quality of still camera is though good but front camera is not very impressive and its performance is below average. It can play 1080p videos using MX player and works well in H/W mode but in S/W mode, the frame sometimes drops out and audio was not synchronized.

Battery and Memory

Gionee Pioneer P2S comes with 512MB RAM of which 226MB is available on first boot. It also has 4GB ROM along with 1.19GB internal storage of which 1GB is sued for internal apps and of this 846MB is available. However, you can increase its memory with SDcard up to 32GB.  It has the exclusive feature that apps can be installed on external storage. The battery of the phone is mediocre having 1600mAh life even then the battery doesn’t get heat up much. It can easily last for 3-4 hours under extensive use and video play back time it offers is over 5 hours.

Verdict

Though the Gionee Pioneer P2S looks slim and smart, the hardware has been provided with it not very powerful. Hardware lagging is most often experienced when it comes to heavy gaming. The initial price as it seem though low, doesn’t satisfy the features it offers, so one can claim it to be expensive smartphone as compared to other phone available in market having much better features in same price range. The best quality about the phone is that it is the only phone that has 5 sensors in this price range. This phone is good for those users who don’t prefer much intensive use of the mobile phones otherwise for heavy users; other better options are available in the market.
