iBall Andi 4 IPS Gem Mobile Price List in India

iBall has come out with this low-end smartphone for those who wish to shift from a non- smartphone platform.  This is a good first phone for those users who have not experienced Android before and can expect a decent usage performance out of this phone. The Andi 4 however, cannot be used for high definition multimedia utility or high end gaming.  Though the previous Andi wasn’t much of a success, iBall seems to have gone ahead with targeting the low-end market to bring out a phone to meet the most important needs. With only Micromax and low-end Lumia phones as its competitors, the iBall Andi might be attractive to a small section of buyers.

Features and Specifications

The Andi 4 has a medium sized screen of 4 inches with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels which isn’t HD. It is a Dual SIM phone with both the SIM having support for 3G net connectivity. It has a low RAM of 256 MB and a low internal memory of 2GB. These two shortcomings are evened out a little by the Dual core processor in the phone. It comes only with a 5MP primary camera at the rear and lacs a front camera. It has support for A-GPS and also has a Bluetooth sensor. It houses a small 1300mAh battery which does not give a long backup for the phone. The only sensor it comes with is the G-sensor which is also called the accelerometer.  The Andi 4 runs the Android v4.2, Jelly Bean. Being in the same range, Micromax Canvas Fire A104 has better features than Andi 4.

Design and Quality

The Andi 4 IPS has a simple rectangular design with all corners rounded. The loudspeaker is located at the left bottom side of the back panel. The back panel itself is made of plastic which feels cheap and not so sturdy. The back panel also houses the 5 MP cameras at the top centre position with a flash below it. One the front side, 3 capacitive buttons exist at the bottom of the screen for Menu, Home and Back from left to right respectively. The Micro USB slot is placed at the top panel of the phone. Both the volume rockers as well as the power button are on the left panel which means it will be difficult to use it on the right hand.

OS and Tech

The Andi 4 IPS GEM runs the Android v4.2, codenamed Jelly Bean. This isn’t the latest version of the OS but it is pretty good. It is stock Android, which means iBall hasn’t done anything specific or unique to the OS. It has Email and Android Browser apps and separate store for Phonebook and SMS. It comes with a G-sensor but with the very Low RAM and storage it cannot be used for anything else apart from compass which is a disappointment.

Camera and Multimedia

This phone comes with a 5MP primary camera located at the back of the phone. This camera takes decent pictures in proper light conditions. However, the performance of the camera I the dim and low light conditions drop severely and produce low quality images. It has support for video recording but it isn’t in HD. The LED flash sometimes helps to take better quality images under dim Light. The phone comes with inbuilt support for audio and video multimedia files but not much can be expected of it while playing videos of higher resolution.

Battery and Memory

The 1300mAh battery on this phone is much lesser when compared to standard capacity on other phone in the market. This phone is not designed for heavy use and that is apparent with the battery capacity. On constant usage the battery backup would only last for a couple of hours which isn’t that great. Coming to the memory, the Andi 4 IPS GEM has only 2GB of internal memory which is very less for a phone in these days. However, it does have an option to expand the external memory up to 32 GB. The internal memory is just 256 MB which gives the user a bad experience while by lagging during heavy usage or while switching between apps. This specification is lesser than the Basic Micromax model of Bolt A068.

Pros and Cons

For Pros:

·         Decent primary camera

·         Both SIM having 3G support

·         Dual core processor which adds some serious performance to this phone.

For Cons:

·         Bad battery performance

·         No secondary front camera

·         Very less Internal Memory and RAM

Verdict

This phone is not to be purchased by people who would like to try out many things on a smartphones like high-end games, memory intensive applications or socially active people. This phone is way behind when compared to the specifications and features of a phone even in the low-end market. However, if you have a very low usage requirement or you just want to gift someone a basic android phone, then you can go ahead with this. Looking at competition from other manufacturers, iBall has to do much more to stay in the market.
