The HCL ME U2 is mainly a media oriented tablet. It houses a superb collection of multimedia and entertainment features in one stylish, sleek device. It’s a great way to view and share photos, movie clips and songs. But it somehow falls short of expectations in that it has no in-built 3G connectivity which makes if fall miles behind other devices which offer both data connection and entertainment features at a slightly higher price.
Features and Specifications
The ME U2 runs on Android OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which is said to be slightly backdated nowadays, and is driven by a 1 GHz Cortex A9 processor alongside a 1 GB DDR3 RAM and an in-built Mali 400 graphics card, which makes it quite impressive as a tablet. With a 7 inch capacitive touch screen and a crystal clear HD resolution, it is primarily intended for viewing movies or enjoying music. A music player that allows for multiple formats of music is already installed into the ME U2. The most notable of the media features is the HDMI port on the tab comes with a .3 MP rear camera with a resolution of 1080p. Even though it has no SIM card or inherent 3G ability, it can be connected via dongle to 3G for receiving data services. It supports Wi-Fi connectivity, Email, but not MMS. The tablet doesn’t allow voice calling.
Design and Quality
The tab is quite fashionable to look at. It has a 7 inch capacitive TFT LCD multi touch screen with a quality resolution and is also equipped with an accelerometer sensor. The tablet comes in a gleaming silver body with dimensions of 191x118x13mm and it weighs about 350 gm. One can view movies and create slideshow presentations without a glitch, thanks to the 1 GB DDR3 RAM. The sides of the sides of the device contain a USB port and a HDMI port to connect with other digital media. Tech and OS
Running on a 1 GHz A9 ARM processor supplied with 1 GB DDR3 RAM and spacious file storage along with Bluetooth, its user interface is unsurpassed for a tablet. It is powered with a 3000mAh Li-ion battery that gives a high standby time and battery lifespan. The tablet supports Wi-Fi, but not 3G. It can be plugged with a 3G dongle to enable a data connection.
Camera and Multimedia
The HCL ME U2 is supplied with a state of the art media player which can play all formats of songs and movies one can think of. A cool preloaded app is the Google Play from where customers can buy wallpapers, songs, movie clips or other apps. There is a .3 MP rear camera installed into the device’s hardware. However, it lacks a front camera which is a major disappointment. The 4GB of internal flash memory can be amplified into 32GB via micro SD card, which lets the user store all their photos, songs, or movies. The tablet also gives the user freedom to make cool business presentations, with pictures arranged into a slideshow and viewed comfortably on a much bigger screen or projector by connecting with the HDMI plug in. Thus it can be used to win points at work.
Battery and Storage
The battery Li-ion is rated at 3000mAh to ensure a high battery life. However, continuous usage without charging is liable to expire it in a short time. The device carries 4 GB internal memory, expansible up to 32 GB by using a micro-SD card for storing all of one’s important files.
Pros:
· 1 GHz CPU with 1 GB DDR3 RAM
· 3000 mAH battery and high standby time
· media oriented LCD tablet with HD resolution
· Wi-Fi enabled
Cons:
· No 3G connectivity
· dongle not supplied with set
· no rear camera
Verdict
The HCL ME U2 is a smart, resourceful tablet that focuses mainly on media and entertainment. However, it is unlikely to pose a threat to others of the same kind like the Micromax Funbook Infinity which had a faster processor and higher camera quality at slightly greater price. However, there is no arguing that the ME U2 is wholesomely configured in both design and tech, and worthy in spite of its negative attributes.
