ZTE had introduced the mini version of its Axon 7 flagship at IFA 2016 and from the looks of it the company has produced another little gem of a product. Despite being the lesser cousin of the incredible new ZTE flagship, the ZTE Axon 7 Mini is a quality product in its own right. The phone is also expected to make its way to India pretty soon. Let’s take a look at the specifications on this phone.

Specifications – ZTE Axon 7 Mini

The ZTE Axon 7 Mini comes with a 5.2 inch AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The phone’s display is a 2.5D curved glass display that is now becoming all too common among modern high-end smartphones. To its credit the Axon 7 Mini sports this display despite not being a high-end smartphone. That epithet is reserved for the ZTE Axon 7.

The phone comes with an Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor and an Adreno 405 GPU. The Axon 7 Mini has a 3 GB RAM to boot. Interestingly, the internal storage on the Axon 7 Mini is 32 GB, which is expandable up to 128 GB if you are willing to spend some extra bucks on a microSD card.

The primary camera on the Axon 7 Mini is a 16 megapixel unit with dual LED flash, Phase Detection Auto focus, and Optical Image Stabilization. The secondary camera on the phone isn’t bad either. It is an 8 megapixel unit with an 88 degree wide angle lens to help you snap the jazziest Prisma selfies.

The dual-SIM phone will be available in 2 primary colors – Ion Gold and Platinum Grey. There is ample connectivity support on the Axon 7 Mini to help you get through your digital life without too many hiccups. This includes 4G connectivity, Wifi 802.11 b/g/n, and USB Type-C among others. The dimensions on the phone are 147.5 x 71 x 7.8 mm and it weighs 153 grams.

The battery capacity on the Axon 7 Mini is a pretty standard 2705 mAh, which isn’t bad considering what its competitors are offering but just like the ZTE flagship phone, the Axon 7 Mini could have also done a little better on the battery front. The phone does support Quick Charge 2.0 so battery efficiency may be a little better than we assume.

I have pointed out the battery flaws in the products of some of the top smartphone brands going around for quite some time now and it appears that we reaching a point of saturation as far as resistance to better battery tech is concerned.

At the time of this writing, Samsung is all over the news for its batteries catching fire and that too on its latest flagship phone – Galaxy Note 7. If these top-of-the-line smartphone brands don’t switch to better battery packs like emerging brands such as Gionee do they stand to risk a lot of their reputation and brand value.

The Axon 7 Mini comes with a Fingerprint sensor and is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

The ZTE Axon 7 Mini is a sign of things to come from ZTE

In May this year when ZTE launched its flagship phone, the ZTE Axon 7, it took the market by storm and sent out a strong signal to other brands. With the Axon 7 ZTE made it clear that it is not just here to participate but when the Shenzhen based company puts all the pieces in the right place, it is also capable of market dominance.

After making the point it was imperative that ZTE continue to impress with good phones in various price segments. It’s great to have a product in the market that is arguably the best in the world on various metrics but it is even more useful to have multiple products in the market that appeal to different customer demographics.

This is exactly what ZTE wants to achieve with the Axon 7 Mini. Another good example of this is the ZTE Nubia Z11. Now we will just have to wait and see how the Axon 7 Mini does in markets like India when it finally debuts here.
