Lenovo has kept its steadfast customers regaled with its versatile product line of digital gadgets that are aesthetically appealing as well. The company’s latest offering, the Lenovo Yoga 700 is a laptop-cum-Tablet that’s much cheaper than the high-end two-in-one Yoga 900 but does not compromise on performance. The Yoga 700 comes with an Intel Core i5 CPU, SSD storage, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and the signature sturdy display hinge that can be rotated in a 360˚ sweep.

Of course, the Yoga 700 is not without its drawbacks including a reflective display, short battery life, and bulkiness. But do these shortcomings have an adverse impact on its overall versatility, the low price notwithstanding? Let’s find out.

Design and Build

For a modestly priced hybrid gadget, the Lenovo Yoga 700 packs in quite a punch. Although it doesn’t look as fabulous as its higher-priced cousin, it’s plastic framing of matte black color is impressive nevertheless. The exterior surfacing allows for a light yet firm grip, particularly when you’re using the device in Tablet mode. Design features of this Tablet from Lenovo are good enough, even though lightweight plastic has been generously used.

For instance, the deck just below the keyboard is smooth and the touchpad is quite large giving you ample space to place your wrist. The 360˚flexibility of the hinge allows you to make good use of the button controls alongside the keyboard’s bezel. A fully rotational hinge means you can effortlessly transition between the laptop and Tablet mode.

The keyboard has shrunk a bit compared to its more expensive predecessor, so it might take some time for you to get used to typing smoothly. However, this drawback has been more than made up by the functional touchpad that has a delicate rubbery surface that minimizes friction when it comes to clicking and swiping.

The designing of Yoga 700 with lightweight plastic is such that it weighs 3.5 pounds which makes the convertible gadget much lighter than other 14-inch hybrids including the Acer Aspire R 14 and the Toshiba Satellite Radius 14. However, it still seems to be heavier when you intend to regularly carry it from one place to another.

Display

The Yoga 700 has a 14-inch FHD screen and sports an IPS touchscreen display. The 1920 x 1080 resolution is good for displaying images and videos. However, the display is vulnerable to reflections from light sources largely because of its extreme glossiness and also because the brightness aspect is moderate. Also, the extent of the viewing angles is somewhat compromised by the screen’s glossiness.

Performance

Given its price tag, the Lenovo Yoga 700 punches much above its weight and has the capacity to perform grueling tasks. The fact that the laptop-cum-Tablet is capable of displaying some mind-blowing graphics, thanks to the Nvidia GeForce GT 940M graphics makes the Yoga 700 really handy. Of course, that makes the gadget a tad more costly but if you’re a gaming enthusiast, you can look forward to enjoying video games with breathtaking graphics.

The embedded graphic processing unit with a 2 GB memory is also ideal for light to moderate HD video editing. An SSD with an internal capacity of 256 GB may be more than enough for storing all your important files and folders.

8 GB of RAM boosts up the Intel Core i5 processor lending the Yoga 700 robust computing capacity. The Tablet-cum-laptop is a dream when it comes to multitasking.

The Lenovo Yoga 700 boasts of superb performance at its price of Rs. 62,999 and is undoubtedly one of the best hybrid notebooks present in the market. Durable and lightweight design coupled with a powerful GPU makes it a good buy if you’re looking beyond the flaws of the reflective screen and a slightly compromised keyboard design.
