Long time Apple Inc. follower 9to5Mac is reporting that Apple Inc. has a ton of plans for 2016 and will reveal a range of products at an event in March 2016.

The two major attractions at this event by Apple Inc. are likely to be a new iPhone, quite possibly the iPhone 6c, and the second generation of Apple’s smartwatch, the Apple Watch 2.

Is the new iPhone really the iPhone 6c?

Reports claim that the iPhone 6c will sport a 4 inch display, very much in-line with previous iPhone models the Apple iPhone 5 and the Apple iPhone 5s. There are still doubts about whether the new iPhone will be a cheaper iPhone such as the Apple iPhone 5c or whether it will be a new Apple flagship iPhone. We will get a clearer picture when reports on which chipset Apple is likely to use in its latest iPhone break.

Premium Apple flagships, such as the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, are powered by the A9 processor while the budget-friendly iPhones have traditionally been running on an A8 processor. If this new iPhone is indeed an iPhone 6c then it will almost certainly be powered by an A8 processor.

Could this new iPhone actually be the iPhone 7?

There are also some reports which suggest that Apple Inc. will introduce its newest flagship the iPhone 7 in early 2016. However, that doesn’t sound plausible to me. The Apple iPhone 6s and the Apple iPhone 6s Plus are doing extremely well and Apple usually prefers what I would describe as an iPhone-gestation period between the launch of two flagship iPhones. It has only been a few months since the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus debuted in the market so to introduce a new flagship iPhone within a year of the previous flagship’s launch doesn’t sound very Apple like to me.

So yes, we are ruling out the iPhone 7 anytime in the near future. Is this a possibility in the second half of 2016? It may be a possibility depending on whether Apple wants to introduce the latest version of the iOS or a latest A10 processor with its latest flagship. If any of these are on the cards then there is a remote possibility that we may indeed see the iPhone 7 towards the end of 2016. But early 2016? Definitely not!

How legitimate are the Apple Watch 2 rumors?

This is by far the most likely Apple product to be released in early 2016. It is common knowledge that Apple was already working on the second generation of its groundbreaking Apple Watch wearable when it released the original in April, 2015.

So one would expect that an improved version of the Apple Watch is very much on the cards in the first half of 2016 and if Apple Inc. is planning an event in March, 2016, this could be the main event announcement.

What direction will Apple Inc. be heading in 2016?

It’s always difficult to predict what a global brand like Apple Inc. may do ahead of time but if the Cupertino based tech giant had any secretive plans for 2016 they certainly didn’t hide them in 2015. At iSpyPrice we have closely observed Apple Inc. and to us it is very clear that 2015 was the year when Apple Inc. had a change of guard. In 2015 Apple Inc. launched the Apple Watch, the Apple TV, the Apply Pay mobile payment service, and introduced the iPhone Upgrade Program.

All of these are indicative of a change in strategy for how Apple Inc. wants to progress as a company. Yes, they will continue to build hardware in as far as the mind can see but the company is expanding its business reach by introducing non-hardware services and, in some case, hardware-complementary services such as the Apple Pay and the iPhone Upgrade Program respectively. With the advent of Apple TV we will see more such services enter the fold. We believe Apple Inc. is undergoing a service-based transition that will serve as a complementary revenue model for current and future Apple hardware products.
